A college student has been taken into custody after allegedly driving his motor vehicle onto a military base, prompting a lockdown on Sunday night.
The Associated Press reported that the unidentified male, who was able to get his car by security at the airbase, is a local college student.
The man was stopped shortly after he gained access to the base. Officials have said that earlier reports claiming that there were explosives in the vehicle are false. Nonetheless, the base was placed on lockdown from about 5:30 p.m. to around 9:00 p.m.
Reuters noted that spokesman for the 502nd Air Base Wing said that when military personnel pulled him over they did not find any weapons in the car.
"He will remain in custody until the OSI (Office of Special Investigations) completes its investigation," Delgado said. He also said that formal charges against the man have not yet been filed.
Some media outlets have reported that the suspect is a "Saudi national.”
However, officials would not comment on that or which college he attends.
The military base is located in San Antonio and named after the first President of the Republic of Texas, Sam Houston.
