After being dropped by Sony, Universal has taken over production of Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs biopic.

For unexplained reasons, Sony decided not to move forward with the project last week. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a deal has been reached with Universal that will give the movie new life.

This is a bright spot in tumultuous production. As Indiwire explained, Scott Rudin was originally set to adapt Walter Isaacson’s Jobs biography with Aaron Sorkin writing and David Fincher directing. The three had previously collaborated at Sony on the acclaimed Facebook drama The Social Network, so the trio seemed like a no-brainer.

However, Fincher passed on the job, so Danny Boyle was hired to take over as director. This wasn’t the only drop-out; Christian Bale was originally set to star as Jobs, but he too recently left the project.

What’s more, Laurene Powell Jobs, the Apple co-founder’s widow, has apparently taken issue with some elements of Sorkin’s script.

Hope is not lost, though. Variety noted that Michael Fassbender is set to replace Bale as the star. Seth Rogen is also expected to play Steve Wozniak, Apple’s co-founder.
