The lyric video for Nicki Minaj's latest single, "Only," has been garnering a lot of controversy for its Nazi symbolism. While the rapper has said she takes responsibility for how people view the video, the director and visual artist for the video, Jeff Osbourne, isn't apologizing.
It was previously reported that since its release, the "Only" video caused a lot of outrage and concern for its distinct Nazi imagery.
The Anti-Defamation League's (ADL) national director and Holocaust survivor, Abraham H. Foxman, issued a statement on the group's website about the video. He said that the video was insensitive to Holocaust survivors, and said he found it troubling that no one on Nicki Minaj's team would raise a red flag about what imagery was being used in the video.
Nicki Minaj did take to her Twitter to say that she would never use Nazi imagery in her art, and that the artist for the video drew inspiration from the Adult Swim show, Metalocalypse and Sin City. But Myspace is reporting that Jeff Osbourne released a statement clarifying that many parts of the video, "are all representative of Nazism."
Osbourne claimed that he was not apologetic for his work, and went on to address that there were also a lot of American symbolism throughout the video, including the Supreme court and the Lincoln memorial. He continued on with his statement, saying that he found it important to remind younger generations of important and tragic historical events.
He ended his statement with, "So if my work is misinterpreted because it’s not a sappy tearjerker, sorry I’m not sorry."
