More than 40 people were killed after a suicide bomber detonated explosives at a school in northeastern Nigeria on Monday.
VOA News reported that the deadly blast occurred as students and faculty at the all boys’ school were preparing to begin their morning classes.
"At about 8:00 a.m., a suicide bomber disguised himself as one of the male students and while the school was holding its normal assembly, the bomb went off," police spokesman Emmanuel Ojukwu told BBC News.
Last week, a suicide bomb attack in the same city killed several people during a religious procession.
While no one has yet claimed responsibility for the most recent bombing in the town of Potiskum, authorities believe that the militant group Boko Haram is behind it.
The Islamic extremist group is the same group that garnered international attention after kidnapping hundreds of female students at a secondary school in Chibok, Borno State last April.
The name Boko Haram means western education is sinful.
