DreamWorks Animation already has quite a few films on their roaster next year, with Home crashing into theaters on March 27 and Kung Fu Panda 3 hitting theaters on December 23. But one that was set to come spooking into cinemas next year, B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations, will not be making its way into cinemas next year. The film, rather, is being delayed indefinitely from the studio's roaster.
The news of the release date change comes from The Hollywood Reporter. The animated film, featuring the voices of Seth Rogen and Melissa McCarthy as the lead ghosts who stumble into an evil plot in their work force, is in the midst of the company's continued financial problems.
Also featuring the voices of Rashida Jones, Matt Bomer, Jennifer Coolidge, Octavia Spencer, and Bill Murray, the film will apparently not be ready by the summer season due to the box office performance from their last two films, Mr Peabody and Sherman and How to Train Your Dragon 2, not quite living up to the studio's expectations.
”Animated features are our most valuable assets and we regularly evaluate how to maximize [our films'] value, including determining the most opportune time to release a film,” a spokesperson for DreamWorks Animation told THR.
This news follows an unsuccessful merger that fell through just three days ago. This specific deal resulted in stock in DreamWorks Animation dropping 14 percentage points. This was a tough blow, especially considering the rise in stock the company enjoyed when word of the talk first came to light. Talks also fell through with Softbank and the company in September.
Whether or not DreamWorks Animation can start saving their skin can be seen just next week, when their next film, Penguins of Madagascar, comes into theaters on November 26.
