Following the release of its' Beatles tribute album, The Flaming Lips appeared on Conan with Miley Cyrus to perform a cover of "A Day in the Life," the final track of the band's 1967 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, on Thursday.
The Flaming Lips album, entitled With a Little Help from My Fwends is a tribute album of Sgt. Pepper's, each song to be the rendition from the original album, some songs featuring artists such as Cyrus, Moby and Tegan and Sarah. The album was released on Oct. 27.
In the performance on Conan, lead singer Wayne Coyne sang the opening lyrics, which was sang by John Lennon on the original song. Coyne was dressed in a metalic cape that flared out all around him, it to wave in and out by people under it. Pasted on Coyne's face was a set of googly eyes.
After Coyne finished his portion of the song, the song changed from the classic rock meoldy to a heavy bass and electronic filled beat. Cyrus then emerged from underneath the cape, dressed in a body suit that was covered in googly eyes and wearing a tinsel stranded wig, mirroring Coyne's outfit. She then sang Paul McCartney's portion of the song, parts of her singing to be repeated for effect, swaying lethargically.
Along with singing on The Flaming Lips' rendition of "A Day in the Life" on the tribute album, Cyrus also sang on the band's rendition of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" along with Moby.
