As Florida State's dreams of repeating as National Champions hung in the balance on Saturday, reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston took matters into his own hands. He willed his team to a 20-17 victory over Boston College.
The game turned out to be quite the scare for the Seminoles, but in the end the star quarterback, probably the best player in all the land, led his offense on a 66-yard drive resulting in the game winning 26-yard field goal, notes Associated Press.
''The majority of the games we've played this year have been like this game,'' Winston said, referring to the close nature of the game. ''So this isn't anything new. We have confidence. So, I told them get ready to score.''
While Florida St. did manage to go over 100 yards rushing in the game with running back's Dalvin Cook (76 yards) and Karlos Willaims (41 yards), it was Winston who took them over the top, according to CBS Sports Boxscore. He threw for 281 yards and a touchdown on a very efficient 22 of 32 passing. Wide receiver Rashad Greene was by far his favorite target on a day as he hauled in eight passes for 106 yards.
The win makes it 26 straight victories for the Seminoles, extending their school record. They're already locked into the ACC Championship Game, but will need to win-out to avoid any major skepticism as it relates to getting into the National Championship Playoff.
Defending champions or not, all non-SEC teams face this reality.
