Hugh Jackman will turn villainous for Warner Bros.’ Pan, a new film from Joe Wright that sets out to tell the origin of Peter Pan. Jackman may be the villain, but he’s not playing Captain Hook.

Instead, the Les Miserables Oscar nominee was cast as Blackbeard, an evil pirate who has taken over Neverland. The first image of Jackman in full pirate garb was posted at Entertainment Weekly, showing Jackman with a very obvious wig and donning a medieval costume.

Hopefully the wig will look better in the finished film, because it’s not very convincing. Jackman already revealed in June that he had his head shaved for the part. Obviously, his real hair wasn't “pirate” enough.

EW posted other images - one showing Blackbeard’s ship heading towards Neverland, another showing Blackbeard screaming and another with newcomer Levi Miller as Peter. Another image shows Peter hiding from Blackbeard.

Garrett Hedlund is playing Hook, although he’s more of an “Indiana Jones-style” character. Rooney Mara is Tiger Lily.

Pan, which will introduce us to a world J.M. Barrie never showed, will open on July 17.
