Get ready for some (not) shocking news. Disney is working on a Frozen sequel, at least according to Idina Menzel.
During an interview with The Telegraph, Menzel appeared to hint that Disney is planning to bring the further adventures of Elsa and Anna will be brought to the big screen. She was asked to respond to the rumors of a Frozen stage show and a full-length sequel, in addition to the short film in the works.
When asked what she was allowed to say about these projects, she replied, “That they’re all in the works, ha ha!”
However, she hasn’t signed on for everything. Don’t expect her to play Elsa on the stage. “Not the stage show – I don’t know what will happen with that – but the movie hopefully. We’ll see. I’m just going along for the ride,” Menzel said.
Had Frozen been a success in the late ‘90s or in the previous decade, there would be no question that Disney would have a studio working on a direct-to-video sequel. However, since even the Cars spin-off Planes went to theaters, a Frozen sequel would be a big undertaking.
Of course, since the original made $1.27 billion and Disney loves having Pixar make sequels, a Frozen 2 doesn’t seem like such a far-fetched idea.
Menzel just released a holiday album and is heading out on tour next year.
