Writer and director Jason Reitman might be in a career-slump at the moment, with his last two films Labor Day and Men, Women and Children not the critical and financial successes some hoped they would be. However, that is not stopping him from making movies as he just signed on to direct I Would Only Rob Banks for My Family for Fox Searchlight.

An adaptation of an article that ran in the award-winningTexas Monthly by the same name, The Hollywood Reporter got the exclusive on the new film from the Academy Award-nominated director. While the article was written by Skip Hollandsworth, the film will be adapted by author-turned-screenwriter Nick Hornby.

The film will revolve around a seemingly ordinary Texas family who pulled off two bold heists before being caught attempting their third. This is not the first Hollandsworth article to make the transition from print-to-film, as "Midnight in the Garden of East Texas", written for the same publication, ended up becoming the Richard Linklater film Bernie, starring Jack Black, Matthew McConaughey and Shirley MacLaine. In this case, journalist Hollandsworth co-wrote the script with Linklater.

This film will act as a father-and-son reunion, as Ivan Reitman, the director behind hits like Ghostbusters and Meatballs, will produce through his company Montecito Picture Company. Jason will also produce this film through his banner, Right of Way. Ivan also previously produced Jason's Up in the Air.

Jason will direct the film once he is done with his commitment to the new Hulu series Casual, which he will produce and direct its pilot. It was also said earlier this year to adapt the novel The Possibilities to the screen, but there is no word on what has become of that film at the moment.

As Slashfilm notes, this is Jason Reitman's return to Searchlight, who distributed his first two movies, Thank You for Smoking and Juno. Since then, Paramount has distributed the filmmaker's features. This also marks the reunion of Hornsby and Searchlight, as the author penned the screenplay for the Oscar-contender Wild. He previously scored an Oscar nomination for adapting the screenplay for An Education.
