Another show has met its end, but this time on cable. Lifetime has decided to end Witches of East-End after just two seasons.
The series, which starred Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Rachel Boston, Julia Ormond and Mädchen Amick, will end its run on a cliffhanger. As E! News notes, the second season finale included quite a few surprises, including the revelation that Ingrid (Boston) was pregnant. There was even a body-swapping storyline that was left without a resolution.
However, not enough viewers were tuning in to see how the story played out. The Hollywood Reporter notes that the show’s Oct. 3 finale only drew just over 1 million viewers. That’s a big drop from the 3 million-viewer average for season one.
Both Dewan-Tatum and Boston expressed disappointment in the show ending, but thanked the fans who did tune in. “Not enough love in the world for the amazing cast, crew, writers and fans of #WitchesofEastEnd. This has been an incredible journey,” Dewan-Tatum wrote.
Lifetime has also cancelled The Lottery. It does have a few more scripted shows in the works, including a new Lizzie Borden miniseries with Christina Ricci.
On the broadcast side, several shows have already been cancelled this fall, including Utopia, A To Z, Bad Judge and Manhattan Love Story.
