Authorities said a woman in Oregon called 911 on Monday and allegedly told the operator that she threw her son over a bridge.

The Associated Press reported that an affidavit filed by police said Jillian Meredith McCabe, 34, threw her 6-year-son London, off of the bridge and then dialed 911 from her cellphone.

"I just threw my son over the Yaquina Bay Bridge," McCabe allegedly said, according to the affidavit.

Law enforcement authorities in boats and helicopters began searching for the victim. After several hours his body was found floating in the icy waters of the bay.

The child was a non-verbal autistic boy and as NBC News noted, the Autistic Self Advocacy Network said that “this crime should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

The community of Seal Rock, where the McCabes live, is trying to come to grips with the horrific death of the boy and the allegations against his mother. A memorial service for London is planned for Saturday.

His mother’s bail is set for $1 million. She has been charged with aggravated murder and if convicted, could face the death penalty.
