Judd Apatow and Laura Dern are working on a new ensemble comedy, and it's sounding like it could be a pretty interesting look at a topic not explored too often on screen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Judd Apatow's new comedy will be a female-driven ensemble about obsessive women footballs fans.

The idea actually comes from Laura Dern herself, who brought the concept to Apatow. The two then hired Pam Brady, writer on South Park and Team America: World Police, to write the film's screenplay.

The untitled comedy will be Apatow's first sports related project since Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. But it will also be interesting because as pointed out by Slashfilm, the subject of female sports fans isn't really a topic explored too often in movies or television.

The movie will also be developed for a female ensemble, territory Apatow has had some experience with, producing the 2011 hit Bridesmaids. But despite the success of that movie, there really haven't been too many female ensemble comedies like that since then.

It's not clear yet if Dern will actually star in the film, but she typically does only produce projects that she also stars in, so it seems safe to assume she'll appear in the movie in some way. The actress previously stared in the HBO series Enlightened, but she hasn't appeared as the top billed star in a project since then, though she has had supporting roles in films such as The Fault in Our Stars and Wild.
