Kenny Chesney is not very fond of how recent country music depicts women.

Chesney graces the cover of this week’s Billboard magazine, and in their feature story, takes a shot at the sexism in modern country music.

“Over the last several years, it seems like anytime anybody sings about a woman, she’s in cutoff jeans, drinking and on a tailgate — they objectify the hell out of them,” he tells Billboard. “Twenty years ago, I might have written a song like that — I probably did. But I’m at a point where I want to say something different about women.”

The track he’s referring to is titled “Wild Child” from his latest album, The Big Revival, which debuted at No 1. last month. Chesney describes the song as being about a woman who’s “stronger and more independent than those Daisy Dukes cliches now ubiquitous on country radio.”

Maybe the singer’s attitude can rub off on his many opening acts for his Big Revival tour next year. Eric Church, Jake Owen and Cole Swindell are a few of the men in country who will be opening for Chesney on the road, according to Rolling Stone.
