Kevin Spacey and Michael Shannon will be starring in a unique historical drama that focuses on one important day in 1970.
The two will be in Elvis & Nixon, a project Bloom is introducing to potential buyers at the American Film Market. Cary Elwes wrote the script with Halana and Joey Sagal, while Dallas Buyers Club team Cassian Elwes and Holly Wiersma are producing. The executive producers are Byron Wetzel and Tim Smith & Paul Brett of Prescience, which is financing.
Shannon will star as Elvis Presley with Spacey as President Richard M. Nixon. The focus is the Dec. 21, 1970 meeting between the two giants of their fields so Elvis could become a Federal Agent at large. It’s a moment that has never been brought to the big screen.
“After the enormous success of The Butler I have a deep affection for films set in the White House as does the public,” producer Cassian Elwes said in a statement. “To work with Shannon and Spacey on this movie at the height of their careers is a dream come true.”
Shannon recently appeared in Man of Steel and earned an Oscar nod for Revolutionary Road. Spacey stars in Netflix’s House of Cards and has Oscars for his performances in American Beauty and The Usual Suspects.
Back in March, Spacey signed on to do another historical drama, Captain of the Gate, which would have him playing Winston Churchill.
