Kirk Cameron is rarely in the news for something positive these days. This time, his plan to save his Rotten Tomatoes score for his film Saving Christmas - which got an 8 percent rating – completely backfired.

The former Growing Pains star took to his Facebook page, which has almost 2 million followers, and asked them to help him "storm the gates of Rotten Tomatoes!"

“All of you who love Saving Christmas - go rate it at Rotten Tomatoes right now and send the message to all the critics that WE decide what movies we want our families to see! If 2,000 of you (out of almost 2 million on this page) take a minute to rate Saving Christmas, it will give the film a huge boost and more will see it as a result!”

His plan did – temporarily – work. He informed fans that they had pushed the fan rating up to 94 percent. The film community was, of course, not happy with this.

CinemaBlend notes that meant it got a better rating than films such as Gone Girl and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

“You just drove the Rotten Tomato rating to an all-time, soaring high of 94%!" wrote. "Now the haters and atheists are coming out of the woodwork, attempting to hammer your good work (they rallied to drop your rating super low). They are attempting, once again, to ruin Saving Christmas for everyone."

It’s currently back down to an 8 percent, with an audience score of 34 percent, where some would say it rightfully belongs.
