Authorities in New York City have said that a man was killed on Sunday after he was pushed onto subway tracks in the Bronx.

The Associated Press noted that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority confirmed the man died after he was hit by an oncoming train just before 9:00 a.m. in front of other stunned commuters. The conductor applied the brakes, but could not stop the D train in time.

New York Magazine reported that police said witnesses recalled that the man “had not fallen on the tracks by accident or jumped into the path of the train.” One person at the station said that they heard shouting before the incident occurred.

The victim is identified as 61-year-old Wai Kuen Kwok. He was standing next to his 59-year-old wife when he was pushed. She was transported to nearby hospital, but did not sustain any injuries.

The NYPD is continuing to look for the suspect who allegedly pushed Kwok. It is believed that person fled the scene by getting onto a bus.
