Mel Brooks is going to Hotel Transylvania as the father of Dracula.
Brooks will be playing the character Vlad in the upcoming animated comedy sequel Hotel Transylvania 2, according to Variety. Adam Sandler will also return to voice Dracula, and Genndy Tartakovsky also comes back as director.
USA Today reported that the character Vlad comes to the hotel for a family reunion of sorts. However, he causes disruptions on all the characters at the hotel, from the resident monsters to Dracula and his family. Brooks was reportedly asked to join the animated sequel by Sandler.
Brooks also influenced the design of Vlad, USA Today also said. He asked to make the character seem a little kinder-looking for children by making larger eyes, while the initial design of the character was slightly more intimidating. Brooks also is familiar with comedies using horror characteristics, directing the legendary film Young Frakenstein in the 70s and Dracula: Dead and Loving It in the 90s.
Hotel Transylvania 2 will be released September 25, 2015, Variety reported.
