Melissa McCarthy will take flight as an iconic pixie in Shawn Levy’s upcoming Tinker Bell project.
Levy and McCarthy created the idea of the project together, according to Deadline. The film is set to be a fresh take on the Peter Pan story. Nicholas Stoller of Neighbors and Sex Tape fame will write the script. Levy’s is expected to begin production on this film after finishing up on The Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb.
This isn’t the only Peter Pan story in development, though. Pan, starring Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara, is an origin story of sorts for J.M. Barrie’s flying rogue. It will come out in the summer of 2015.
In the history of Pan-related films, McCarthy is only the most recent high-profile actress to take on the role of Peter’s Pixie friend. Julia Roberts played the part in Hook, while Keira Knightley donned wings for the SyFy miniseries Neverland.
Variety reported that both McCarthy and Levy would produce the film. The comedy-adventure is untitled and there are no plot details as of yet.
