Nebraska fired head football coach Bo Pelini on Sunday. The news comes just days after Nebraska won their final game of the season against Iowa.
Pelini replaced Bill Callahan as Nebraska’s head coach in 2008. Callahan failed as a coach as Nebraska had four losing years with him as their coach. Pelini was under contract through February 2019. He is owed a settlement of about $7.5 million from the school, but that can be reduced when he gets another job, according to the Associated Press.
"Earlier this morning, I informed Coach Bo Pelini of our decision to move forward in a new direction," Nebraska athletic director Shawn Eichorst said in a statement. "Coach Pelini served our University admirably for seven years and led our football program's transition to the Big Ten Conference. We wish Coach Pelini and his wonderful family all the best and thank him for his dedicated service to the University."
Pelini had been Nebraska’s coach for seven seasons. He had a 67-27 record, won three division titles between the Big 12 and Big Ten, won the 2009 Holiday Bowl and won two Gator Bowls in those seven seasons, according to Yahoo Sports. This season Nebraska went 9-3. Pelini won at least nine games every season while with Nebraska.
At this time it is unknown who will be Nebraska’s new coach.
