Authorities said a New Jersey man has been charged with murder after he allegedly shot and killed a woman he shared a residence with.
Philly.com reported that police responded to a shooting at the home shared by Joseph Morrison, 62, and 52-year-old Debra Mason on Wednesday evening.
When officers arrived they found Mason with a single gunshot wound to her chest, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain said.
She was pronounced dead at the scene and Morrison was taken into custody.
After an investigation by the Hamilton Township Police Department and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, Morrison was charged with murder and possession of a weapon. Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Mark H. Sandson set his bail at $1 million.
The Press of Atlantic City noted that tax records revealed Morrison and another woman own the home, which was purchased in 2007.
No one else was injured in the shooting.
A motive for the crime is not known at this time.
