Nicki Minaj, constantly ridiculed for her curvaceous body displayed in “Anaconda”, is lashing back at critics with her feminist views. Clearly the controversial music video’s content exceeds that of half-naked women, for it also features a fight against double standards.
"If a man did the same video with sexy women in it, no one would care,” Nikki Minaj told VMagazine, according to 3News, "They don't say anything when they're watching the Victoria's Secret (lingerie) show and seeing boobs and thongs all day.”
Critics argue that the racy rapper exploits her body solely for the purpose of her paycheck. However Minaj, unafraid to dispute the dated views, explains that these conservative criticizers know little about the hip hop culture, making their opinions, an inappropriate contribution.
According to Yahoo TV, “Anaconda” was inspired by Sir Mix-a-lot’s 1992, “Baby Got Back.”
The video which features a dominance of women, highlights the importance for females to “be in charge of their own situation," a message that Minaj hopes to deliver throughout all her music.
