A man burst into a crowded Chicago Nordstrom department store on Black Friday and shot a female employee before turning the gun on himself.
NBC 5 reported that the shooting happened at the North Bridge Shops Nordstrom store along Chicago’s famed Magnificent Mile just after 8:30 p.m.
Authorities said that the gunfire erupted in the cosmetics department where the man shot the victim believed to be his current or ex-girlfriend. She is a seasonal employee at the store.
MyFOXChicago noted that Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva said that the gunman, who was in his 20s, died at the scene. The woman was transported to a nearby hospital where she remains in critical condition.
Store employees described hearing a bang before dropping to the ground and many frightened shoppers rushed out of the store abandoning their bags and coats.
The names of the deceased and injured have not been released.
On Saturday, the department store was closed. There is no word yet on when it will reopen.
