Big Brother will be coming to screens near us courtesy of Paul Greengrass. The United 93 director will direct an adaptation of George Orwell’s seminal dystopian novel 1984.

Scott Rudin and Gina Rosenbaum are producing the film, according to Deadline. James Graham will write the script.

Set in a future England controlled by a totalitarian government, the plot of the novel follows the secretly-rebellious Winston Smith, a government employee who begins a love affair with a woman named Julia. He is eventually captured, tortured and re-educated, reverting him to a submissive servant of the state.

This won’t be Greengrass’ first time dealing with shadowy government bodies; The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum both featured U.S. intelligence organizations pulling the strings behind the action. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Greengrass and star Matt Damon will be returning to the Bourne franchise for the series’ film.

This isn’t the first time the classic novel has been brought to the screen; Michael Anderson directed a version in 1954, while a version directed by Michael Radford starring John Hurt appropriately hit the screens in 1984.
