After law enforcement agents rescued a woman and arrested a man thought to be her abductor, investigators are looking into whether there are other potential victims linked to the suspect.
According to WWBT, authorities in Virginia have said that a teenager in Richmond, who is believed to have been kidnapped by Delvin Barnes, said he showed her photos of his “other victims.” And now, police in Charles City are asking officers in other jurisdictions to comb through any unsolved missing persons cases that Barnes could be tied to.
As the Associated Press noted, the 37-year-old Barnes was apprehended after agents surrounded his vehicle in Jessup, Maryland on Wednesday afternoon. His alleged victim Carlesha Freeland-Gaither, 22, was found in the suspect’s car alive and has since been reunited with her family.
Barnes was immediately jailed in Maryland on charges of abducting, raping and attempting to kill the 16-year-old Richmond girl.
At this point, Charles City Sheriff Javier Smith does not believe that the alleged crimes against the two females are related.
In addition to what he is accused of with the teen in Richmond, authorities have also accused him of abducting Freeland-Gaither in Philadelphia after she got off a bus on Sunday evening. The incident of man grabbing her and dragging her down the street was caught on surveillance video.
