Brazil is about to get plenty of beach attention now that one of their beaches has officially been marked as a nudist beach.
The Huffington Post reports that Abrico Beach has always been considered to be a great place for nudists because many people who use the area for sunbathing call it “private and peaceful” in terms of its setup. An association called Abrico Beach Naturist uses the spot to meet up on a regular basis in order to socialize.
According to The Guardian, nudist Paula Nogueira, who once joined another nudist named Anna Rios in organizing a topless protest, called the decision a “courageous decision by the mayor.”
This is very good timing for tourism with the 2016 Olympic games coming to Brazil. The country’s legislation calls sunbathing while topless an “obscene act” and the two activists argued that the law was outdated, since it was passed in the 1940s.
Visitors to Abrico Beach have praised the location for having a beautiful scenery and for being less noisy than other beaches in Rio De Janeiro.
The beach is located an hour away from the city.
