Spotify is joining another online company to make rides more customizable with users' music.
The company announced Monday that it is collaborating with online transportation company Uber, according to a Spotify press release, where users can link accounts between both sites and apps to control what they listen to in an Uber-controlled car. The option is available only for Uber users and Spotify Premium members.
Specifically, Spotify said that upon a user connecting their account to Uber, they could request transportation from an Uber vehicle with Spotify functionality. Those same users could also choose a pre-made playlist from Uber or use their own from Spotify, among other choices, and the selected music will be playing in the Uber-controlled vehicle upon arrival.
An Uber blog post reported that this function will begin on Friday, November 21 in ten different cities worldwide, including domestic areas like New York City and Los Angeles, and international locations including Singapore and London. The company will launch the Spotify function in other cities worldwide soon afterwards.
