Anyone working on the new Disney Star Wars films should be prepared to stay in the U.K. for a long time. While principal photography on Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been completed, another film in the franchise is about to get moving at Pinewood Studios.
During the CBI Conference in London, Pinewood Shepperton CEO Ivan Dunleavy said that another Star Wars film has booked the studio for more filming.
“The seventh Star Wars movie just finished shooting at Pinewood,” Dunleavy said, reports The Hollywood Reporter. “And I'm delighted to be able to tell you that a new Star Wars movie is already booked in.”
While it was initially unclear what Star Wars movie he was referring to, THR later reported that it is the first spin-off film, which will be directed by Godzilla’s Gareth Edwards. We still don’t know what that film will be about, but it is supposed to hit theaters on Dec. 16, 2016.
Deadline reports that Dunleavy also stressed how important the creative industries are to the overall U.K. economy. They employ over 2 million people and add $111 billion annually to the U.K. economy.
Now that the recently titled The Force Awakens has wrapped, Pinewood will be handed over to the makers of the new James Bond movie.
J.J. Abrams’ The Force Awakens will be released on Dec. 18, 2015.
