Taylor Swift’s career is on fire, and will certainly not be boiling down anytime soon. Her recently debuted album, 1989, has already reached wide success and only continues to grow. It may grow so much, in fact, that it beats out the Queen of Pop, Britney Spears’ ultimate record selling number!
1989 is set to earn the largest sales in a week for any album since 2002, according to Billboard. The album, released last week, has hit its one week mark in the debut tracking week, and industry forecasters are predicting it could sell over 1.3 million copies through Nov. 2.
In 2000, Spears’ album Oops! … I Did It Again sold 1.319 million copies, and Swift is aiming to surpass that. While Spears holds the record for the female with the most album copies sold, Eminem holds the ultimate record when in 2002 he sold 1.322 million copies of The Eminem Show. Swift could very possibly be surpassing Eminem as well, which would be record-breaking.
It’s no wonder Swift’s first all-pop album is doing so well! The “Shake It Off” singer has been heavily debuting her album. She promoted the album by inviting fans to her home to play songs for them, which she opened up about to David Letterman last week, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Swift has also been heavily performing during the album’s release week, where she performed on Good Morning America and even on top of the Empire State Building in an intimate gathering.
The final sales figure of 1989 will be announced on Nov. 5.
