It looks like Taylor Swift will continue to dominate the charts with 1989, with Billboard forecasting that the album could be heading into its third week at number 1.
T-Swift sold over 1 million copies of 1989 in its debut week. The 1.2 million albums sold shook the music industry, with 1989 having the best sales week for an album in over 10 years!
In its second week, 1989 continued to dominate, with the album selling over 400,000 copies.
Now Billboard is reporting that the already hugely successful album could be heading in to its third week on the Billboard 200 chart. Music industry forecasters are predicting that 1989 will sell 300,000 copies in its third week, mowing over many artists that have recently released new music, including the Foo Fighters with their album Sonic Highways.
Sonic Highways is slated to sell over 190,000 copies in its first week, according to Billboard.
Amongst the success of 1989, some controversy began when Swift made the decision to pull her music from the popular music streaming app, Spotify. She explained she wasn't "willing to contribute my life's work to an experiment that I don't feel fairly compensates the writers, producers, artists, and creators of this music."
The CEO of Spotify, Daniel Ek, has responded to Swift's money concerns, saying that Swift would be making up to $6 million through the streaming service if she had kept her music on Spotify.
The CEO of Big Machine, Swift's record label, countered Ek's claims, saying that the "Shake It Off" singer has earned less than $500,000 through the streaming service.
