Democrats have narrowed it down to three final cities that could host the 2016 Democratic National Convention.

The Associated Press reported that the nominated cities are New York, Philadelphia and Columbus, Ohio. Bids from Phoenix and Birmingham, Alabama were eliminated.

The Philadelphia Inquirer noted that DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced the news on Monday.

"We're thrilled to move to the next step of the selection process to determine where Democrats will come together to nominate the 45th President of the United States," Schultz said. "We are fortunate to have such a diverse and vibrant group of cities interested in hosting this special event."

Although not as big of a city as the rest of the competition, Columbus could serve as an interesting choice given that Ohio is a battleground state and the Republican Party is holding its 2016 convention in Cleveland.

If New York is chosen, the convention could be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and if Philadelphia is chosen, it will be held at the Wells Fargo Center.

The final decision of which city will host the event will be announced next year.
