Two Minneapolis residents have been charged with allegedly supporting the foreign terrorist group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.

CNN noted that Abdi Nur, 20 and Abdullah Yusuf, 18, are each facing terrorism charges after authorities said the men made preparations to join ISIS.

“These two young men conspired to join ISIL and travel from Minnesota to the Middle East to engage in a campaign of terror," Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Carlin said Tuesday.

Each of the suspects are charged with conspiracy to provide material to support a designated terrorist organization.

Yusef, a Somali American, was arrested in May by federal agents at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport when he tried to board a flight to Turkey. He is set to appear in front of a judge on Tuesday. Nur, however was not detained and is believed to have made it to Turkey. The FBI later found references to Jihad and the afterlife on his social media account.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that a federal grand jury has been investigating a Minnesota-Middle East pipeline thought to be used to recruit men and women to join and fight with ISIS.
