Matt Damon will be returning to the character of Jason Bourne in 2016. Damon recently explained why after publicly walking away from the popular franchise that he is going to return to the character of Bourne.

In a recent interview with E! Damon explained that it was the return of Greengrass that allowed him to return. "It'll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. [Director] Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that's all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes."

It was friend and co-collaborator Ben Affleck that broke the news about Damon returning. During the red carpet event for the fourth season of their HBO show Project Greenlite, Affleck let is slip that Damon was working on another Bourne film. "Well, [Damon's] going to be doing a Bourne movie next fall when I've just completely lost any semblance of physical fitness. So….," said Affleck.

The Verge reported that the film is set to come out in 2016 but it is unclear if Jeremy Renner, who starred in The Bourne Legacy which came out in 2012, will be featured in this film.
