Sometimes songs that artists wrote for other people tend to make them a lot of money… and that’s exactly what happened to Jessie J.

In a new interview with Glamour UK, the “Bang Bang” singer revealed that the money she made off of Miley Cyrus’ hit “Party in the USA” paid her “rent for like, three years.”

“Actually it was longer than that,” she added.

The 2010 hit was co-written by Jessie J, Dr. Luke and Claude Kelly which ended up peaking at No. 2 on the Hot 100 list for 28 weeks, Billboard reports.

“You’ve got to write songs,” she said. “That’s where the money is, being an artists… That’s where I get most of my money. I write songs. I’m a singer. I love endorsements and stuff, but that’s all added on.”

Jessie J isn’t the only hit maker that wrote songs for other artists. Sia, Charli XCX and Luke Bryan all got their starts writing for other people.
