For anyone who experienced the polar vortex in 2014, new information from the U.N. weather agency doesn’t seem right, but shows that this year is on track to be the hottest on record.

CNN reported that the findings released by the World Meteorological Organization Wednesday said that this year is shaping up to be one of the hottest, if not the hottest ever recorded.

"What we saw in 2014 is consistent with what we expect from a changing climate,” said WMO Secretary-General Michel Jarraud.

“Record-breaking heat combined with torrential rainfall and floods destroyed livelihoods and ruined lives. What is particularly unusual and alarming this year are the high temperatures of vast areas of the ocean surface, including in the Northern Hemisphere.”

Jarraud also said that 14 out of the 15 warmest years have all occurred in the 21st century.

ABC News noted that some global-warming skeptics point to a hiatus in the rise in temperature since 1998 and believe that man-made warming is not a major concern. Many scientists, however, disagree and have said that the warm 2014 is a sign that global warming has never paused or slowed down.
