The largest truffle in the world is being auctioned off at Sotheby’s in New York on Saturday, and it’s expected to sell for up to $1 million.

The white truffle is 4.16 pounds, and it originates from Italy. It’s twice the size of the record-selling truffle that sold for $417,200 in 2010 at 2.5 pounds.

Federico Balestra, the president of Sabatino Truffles, which found the truffle last week, called it an “extraordinary find.”

CNN Money reports truffles can only be discovered during three months of the entire year.

"White truffles can be buried 10-15 inches underground sometimes,” he explained.

A young dog found it only four inches deep in the ground, which is hard to believe since "usually it's the older, more experienced dogs that make these finds because it takes a very trained nose to find them.”

Fox News reports Sabatino Truffles has turned down a buyer from China who offered $1 million for it. Instead, they want to sell it via Sotheby’s so they can benefit charities of their choice - Citymeals-on-Wheels and the Children's Glaucoma Foundation.
