Authorities issued an Amber Alert for four young boys after the body of woman, believed to be their mother, was found stuffed in the trunk of the family’s car.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the family of six has been missing since Friday. On Wednesday evening, police made a gruesome discovery when they found a woman's body in the trunk of the family’s Honda Accord. The vehicle was found just blocks from their Montebello, California home.

A positive identification has not yet been made for the woman believed to be 39-year-old Erica Perez and officials have not released her cause of death.

The Associated Press noted that after the grim discovery was made, police named the boys’ father, Daniel Perez, 43, as a person of interest and are tirelessly searching for the children.

"We will work around the clock to locate them and locate them safely," said Capt. Luis Lopez of the Montebello Police Department.

The missing boys Alex, Tristian, Jaiden and Jordan range in age from six to 11-years-old. Their father was last seen driving a 2014 black Toyota Camry.

Anyone with information on the family’s whereabouts is asked to contact authorities.
