Beyonce, Jay Z and producer Timbaland have been sued over copyright infringement. A Hungarian singer says that her recording of a Roma folk song was used in “Drunk in Love” without her permission.
Monika Miczura, who performs under the name Mitsou, says that her 1995 recording of “Bajba, Bajba Pelem” is the song heard in the intro on “Drunk in Love.” She filed the lawsuit on Dec. 12.
According to TMZ, Mitsou says that she never gave the trio permission to use the recording and she’s not happy with the way it was used. She says the song is about hopelessness, but Queen Bey only used the song “to evoke foreign eroticism alongside the sexually intense lyrics.”
Entertainment Weekly reports that Mitsou wants a judge to bar the song from being played in the future, as long as her recording is still part of it.
“Drunk in Love” is featured on Beyonce’s self-titled surprise album from last year. The album and “Drunk In Love” scored enough Grammy nominations last week to help the singer pass Dolly Parton as the most Grammy-nominated woman in music history.
