Typically, when Jackie Chan makes a new movie, his death-defining stunts are the center of attention, but focus shifted to someone behind the camera this time. During the filming of Skiptrace, starring Jackie Chan, 51-year-old camera Chan Kwok-hung drowned on Lantau Island Wednesday morning.
Deadline reported the on-set tragedy via South China Morning Post. The death came from when his 15-metre-long vessel carrying his film crew capsized off the island near Hong Kong. It was 30 metres in the water when it happened, according to the initial report.
Despite Kwok-hung's passing, seven other crew members successfully swam to shore to their safety. The cameraman's death was certified at the North Lantau Hopsital after his body was found.
Directed by Renny Harlin, Skiptrace, also co-starring Johnny Knoxville and Fan Binbing (X-Men: Days of Future Past), tells the tale of a Hong Kong detective (Jackie Chan) who teams with a chatty gambler to save his niece while taking down the city's biggest criminal. Chan co-produces the film with Brian Gatewood, Esmond Ren, Damien Saccani and Charlie Coker.
