Chris Rock’s divorce from Malaak Compton-Rock is now getting the full tabloid treatment, with a flurry of reports looking to explain why they are splitting after 19 years together.

Compton-Rock and the Top Five writer/director/star announced on Sunday that they are calling it quits. They married in 1996 and have two daughters together, aged 12 and 10.

According to The New York Post, Rock filed for divorce in New Jersey last week and is hoping to get joint physical and legal custody of their daughters.

There were rumors that Rock has already started dating Rosario Dawson, who stars in Top Five with him. However, the comedian’s rep told the Post, “There is no truth to that. The rumor is 100 percent untrue.”

Another source told the Post that Rock “just wasn’t happy in the marriage anymore,” which appears to back up what TMZ reported today. TMZ’s source said that they are looking for a “simple divorce” and there isn’t a third party involved.

However, TMZ also reported that there is one issue between them - their children. In the divorce filing, Rock said that Compton-Rock has been keeping him from seeing them. Rock also claims that Compton-Rock has the “ability to work and contribute to her own support,” which could be a tactic to limit his spousal support payments.

Compton-Rock is the founder of non-profit organization styleWORKS.
