A power outage in Detroit occurred Tuesday morning, with those who use the city’s Public Lighting Department losing power.

The Detroit News reported that the power outage has resulted in buildings being evacuated in the downtown areas. Those buildings include the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, and the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Around 100 customers of Detroit’s PLD were affected by the outage, according to the Detroit Free Press. The outage, which reportedly began at 10:30 a.m, was caused by a failure in the power cables. The city’s fire department said that some of their stations are running on generators, and that they can accept calls from landline or radio.

DFP also reported that the power outage also held off a murder trial happening that day at Frank Murphy. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office said that the building’s power was brought back by noon, but the building will stay closed and its employees can come back on Wednesday.

A lot of the private sector buildings in Detroit weren’t hit by the outage, according to DFP.
