The FBI will have agents positioned around a major bridge over the Mississippi River in Memphis, Tennessee after the agency received word of a possible attack.
FOX 13 reported that an FBI bulletin to law enforcement officials warned of a threat from an unidentified tipster that Islamic State militants may blow up the Interstates 40 and 55 bridge.
"According to an anonymous complainant, as of December 2014, ISIS instructed an ISIS member, a presumed USPER in Memphis, with a direct order to blow up the Memphis-Arkansas bridge on an unknown date, activating ISIS terror cells in the United States," the warning read.
The Associated Press noted that an FBI spokesman said although the threat was unsubstantiated, out of caution, law enforcement still needed to be notified of a “potential danger.”
Highway officials are looking into plans to reroute traffic and asking workers to be alert of any suspicious activity.
ISIS stands for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. The group has seized areas of both countries and declared a sovereign state.
