A sailor who was missing at sea for almost two weeks has been found alive just as his friends had begun to plan for his memorial service.

The Washington Post reported 67-year-old Ron Ingrahamwas found near Oahu, one of the Hawaiian islands. He had been missing since going out to sea on Thanksgiving.

When his boat, which he named Malia, began to fill with water, he called for help right away and then made another call before a search party was put together to find him. Just nine days ago, the search had been called off.

His son, Zakary, was not happy with the decision, reportedly telling Hawaii News Now, “’Man, I don’t think you should call off the search because I don’t think he’s gone.”

On Tuesday, the Coast Guard heard a mayday call for help.

The New York Daily News reported when he was found, Ingraham was weak, dehydrated, and hungry. He was found 80 miles away from where his initial call was made. A Navy ship, the USS Paul Hamilton, was close by to rescue him.

Ingraham, who is an experienced fisherman according to his son, survived by catching fish, he reportedly told ABC News.
