While the project still doesn’t have a title, Mick Jagger and Martin Scorsese’s Untitled Rock ‘n’ Roll Project has earned a series order from HBO.
The premium cable network announced this afternoon that the series will be filmed on location in New York. Scorsese will direct the pilot, while his The Wolf of Wall Street writer Terence Winter is showrunner. George Mastras (Breaking Bad) is a co-writer.
The executive producers are Scorsese, Jagger, Winter, Mastras, Rick York, Emma Tillinger Koskoff and Rick Yorn.
Bobby Cannavale, who starred in Scorsese’s recently wrapped HBO series Boardwalk Empire, will star as Richie Finestra, the founder of American Century Records. He’s got a great ear for talent, but has a crisis when he faces a major decision.
Olivia Wilde will star as Richie’s wife, a former actress named Devon. Richie’s crises will force her to return to her old Bohemian lifestyle.
Ray Romano, Juno Temple, Andrew Dice Clay, Max Casella, Ato Essandoh, James Jagger, Brigitte Sorensen, P.J. Byrne, J.C. Mackenzie, Bo Dietl, Armen Garo, Robert Funaro and Joe Caniano round out the cast.
It’s not clear when the series will air (or when it will get a title). Scorsese is also developing Shutter Island and Cortes series for HBO.
