A couple days ago, radio personality Rush Limbaugh made the statement that should ever be cast as James Bond and that he doesn't fit the character created by Ian Fleming. Now though, Elba has spoken out and said he would indeed love to play the famed character.
When Elba was asked during a Reddit AMA, he said, “Yes, if it was offered to me, absolutely,” according to Ecumenical News.
“I just don’t want to be called the first black James Bond. Do you understand what I’m saying? Sean Connery wasn’t the Scottish James Bond and Daniel Craig wasn’t the blue-eyed James Bond. So if I played him, I don’t want to be called the black James Bond,” Elba also added.
The entire reason for Limbaugh's comments came of the heels of a leaked Sony email between executives that Elba should play the next Bond.
Elba, who is 42, is British, and most recently known for his role as a detective in Luther, notes IMDB. He has played a drug lord in the HBO series The Wire, and has also appeared in films such as American Gangster (2007), Takers (2010), Thor (2011), Prometheus (2012), Pacific Rim (2013) and Thor: The Dark World (2013).
