Sony Pictures’ The Interview still has independent theaters as a release option.

The group Art House Convergence wrote an open letter to the executives of Sony Pictures, according to Entertainment Weekly. The letter expressed the group’s support of the company, saying that they wanted to protect freedom of creativity by showing the The Interview in independently-owned theaters.

A news post on the Art House Convergence website said that the group “stand in solidarity with Sony and offer our support to them in defense of artistic integrity and personal freedoms; freedoms which represent our nation’s great ability to effect change and embrace diversity of opinion.”

Writing about the physical threat made by the group Guardians of Peace, the Art House Convergence also wrote that they were in favor of helping the release of The Interview into independent theaters. They said they understood the dangers associated with showing the film, and would make workers and customers aware so that they could decide whether or not to watch the film.

The Celebrity Café reported about Sony possibly releasing the film on internet sites like Crackle, but a studio spokesperson denied the option.
