Authorities are combing through surveillance footage and following leads in their investigation into the brutal murder of a 19-year-old Mississippi teen.
FOX News reported that police are checking surveillance video from a gas station in the small rural community where Jessica Chambers was found burnt alive.
Chambers was found badly burnt on the side of a road Saturday evening near Courtland, Mississippi. Investigators said that about 98 percent of her body was burnt, but she was able to speak when emergency crews reached her and may have uttered the name of her killer. However, for the sake of the investigation, law enforcement is not disclosing exactly what she said.
Chambers’ parents said their daughter stepped out to clean her car and grab something to eat before she was attacked and lighter fluid was poured down her throat and in her nose.
The young woman was transported to a hospital where she died the following day.
Detectives are also checking her phone because she is believed to have made a phone call while she was out.
CNN noted that a Facebook page set up in Chambers’ memory called Justice for Jessica had more than 63,000 likes as of Wednesday.
If anyone has information about the murder they are asked to contact police.
