Two separate investigations into a plane crash that killed six people in Maryland on Monday are underway as authorities trying to determine what may have caused the accident.

WJZ reported that the jet crashed into a Gaithersburg home killing a mother and her two children. All of the passengers aboard the small plane also perished in the crash. The Montgomery County Police will investigate the deaths of those inside the home, while the National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation into the deaths of the plane’s three occupants.

The crash occurred just before 11 a.m. in a suburban neighborhood not far from the Montgomery County Airpark.

NBC Washington noted that the plane made a gash in the roof of one house before resting against a second house and the plane's wing, filled with fuel, went into a third home causing a fire.

The victims in the home have been identified as Marie Gemmel, 36 and her two sons, 3-year-old Cole and 7-week-old Devin. The deceased pilot of the aircraft has been identified as Michael Rosenberg, CEO of North Carolina-based biopharma corporation Health Decisions, Inc. In addition, one of his passengers has been identified as David Hartman, vice president at a pharmacology consulting firm.

Heartbreaking images shared on social media sites show the Gemmel’s house gutted from the fire.
