The only thing missing from Skyfall was James Bond drinking a vodka martini. However, he will be going back to his favorite drink for Spectre, thanks to a new sponsorship deal.
Sony Pictures has struck a deal with Belvedere Vodka today. “James Bond’s cool attitude and stylish sophistication have always gone hand-in-hand with his choice of vodka martini,” a spokesman for the studio said, reports The Telegraph. The deal will include product placement in the film, plus a worldwide commercial campaign.
Ian Fleming first revealed what Bond’s favorite drink was in the novel Dr. No in 1958. Actor Sean Connery first said “shaken not stirred” in the Goldfinger film.
The deal with Belvedere comes on the heels of the controversial deal with Heineken for 2012’s Skyfall, which was reportedly worth $45 million. Star Daniel Craig defended the move, noting that the film was very expensive to make.
“We have relationships with a number of companies so that we can make this movie. The simple fact is that, without them, we couldn’t do it. It’s unfortunate but that’s how it is,” Craig told Moviefone at the time.
Spectre will probably feature more product placement and will likely still show Craig clutching a Heineken bottle at one point. “You can expect to see Heineken be part of Spectre. Details will be revealed later, as the final contract has not yet been signed,” a company spokesman told the Telegraph.
Spectre just started filming this month.
