The Aaron Sorkin-scripted, Danny Boyle-directed Steve Jobs biopic hasn't had an easy road to production, with actors/actresses dropping out of the project left and right. Natalie Portman was one said drop-out, but Universal appears to have found a worthy replacement. Kate Winslet is in negotiations to fill her shoes as the female lead.

Variety got the scoop on the latest casting development on the film, also set to star Michael Fassbender as Jobs and Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak. Also circling to star is Sorkin's Newsroom star Jeff Daniels as John Scully, Apple's former president, but no offer is firmly in place. Production is supposed to begin early next year.

Portman left the film earlier this month, for reasons still undisclosed. While certainly a blow, it's hard to call Oscar winner and six-time nominee Winslet a step down.

Based on Walter Isaacson's biography, this biopic is set to study Jobs' life from three key speeches/moments in his life. No word has been released on who exactly Winslet plays in the movie should she officially sign on.

Either way, Winslet will next be seen in The Divergent Series: Insurgent, Triple Nine, The Dressmaker and Alan Rickman's A Little Chaos
next year, as well as be heard in NAYA: Legend of the Golden Dolphin.
